Maiden flight.
Late last year I bought a drone: a DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Yes, the Mavic 3 was already available. After doing a lot of research into those two drones, the Pro's companion Zoom, and a bunch of others, it was seemingly a no-brainer to find a used 2 Pro.
Mostly, it was for the still imaging. I'll definitely shoot video on it, but primarily I planned (and still plan) on using it for photography. The 2 Pro had the best onboard camera and biggest sensor available. Certainly for the drones in its price range. Also, the ability to shoot raw files.
Today, after it has inexplicably sat for all of 2022, I grabbed it and the fam and we headed outside. Admittedly, it was K's idea. 'You should take out your drone,' she said yesterday, suggesting I take photos of all the snow we've gotten this week. So I did. Finally.
Not surprisingly, it was a blast.
Slightly nerve-wracking when it was up in the air and the 20% battery warning started flashing. The highest I took it up was 200 feet AGL (above ground level). Half the altitude allowed by the FAA. Sefton instructed me that was too high and to bring it back down.
But it was a successful flight. There will be many, many more. Now I really need to get back to studying for a Part 107 license. Like setting up a studio in our basement, this too is going to be fun.
