Winter, err Spring hike.

Just a few weeks ago (technically, it was almost a month ago now) we went on a hike and witnessed the beginning of the great greening of the foothills. Some balsam root was beginning to bloom. Then last week we got a second record snowfall. So we went skiing and, well, took a wintry hike five minutes from home.

This is one of our favorites and a trail run I do pretty regularly. None of us had been up Castle Rock with so much snow because it's closed every year from December first through April first for the mule deer migration. It was pretty special being up there and seeing our town and the whole Wenatchee valley covered in snow. In the middle of April.

Sefton and Hadley made it to the top. Well, most impressively Sefton under his own power. Although K handled a squirmy baby while negotiating some steep terrain which is an impressive feat as well.

Mostly, it was just fun to get out on a quick hike before dinner and enjoy all of the surprise snow. Our valley really is incredible. Soon enough we'll get back to the green and wildflowers of spring.
