Why the kids are alright: Reason #49 (Sometimes they blow us away)
A couple years ago (I think, or as I remember), I gave J the video files we had shot with an old handheld camcorder on our honeymoon in New Zealand. The thing was all of 720p. We got it on Woot!, if that dates it any. A classic piece of hardware, no doubt. We tried, at the time, to be a little artsy when shooting with it. The footage was heavy on the front end of our trip, light on the back end. How artsy it was is questionable. Some of it was shaky. Grainy. Zooming was very, very manual.
Along with the files, I gave him a song: Free At Dawn, by the Small Black. That was what we wanted to roll with the footage.
Over the years, he's become a really amazing video editor. With minimal direction, I knew he could see our vision for an edit. Tonight, he shared with us what he put together. Fighting back a tear or two, it was clear he did an incredible job. This is something we'll always cherish.
Thanks, J.
To anyone reading this, please enjoy this four-minute and eleven second edit of K's and my honeymoon to New Zealand back in November of 2015…
