A day in Wenatchee No. 1.
Saturday was a great day. It began with me heading up to Mission Ridge to ski a few runs in the morning.
I tend to only go up for a couple of hours at most, often sandwiching skiing in between meetings during the week. This was the first weekend day I had been up there. On the ride up Chair 2 (billed 'The Wenatchee Express'), I chatted with a woman who also lived in town. We joked about how cool it was to just come up and ski for a bit before heading back into town to mountain bike, hit up the Saturday market at Pybus, or just mow the lawn. As the chair rocked into the lift building at the summit, we wished each other a great weekend.
Spring is fun. So is living in Wenatchee. We still can't believe how a day can turn out, and this particular Saturday reminded me. It was memorable enough that I'm starting a small series, one which I'll add to periodically as awesome days spent in this little city come up for us.
This is Number One.
Back to Mission, I like to get away from the crowds by hiking from the summit along Windy Ridge before picking a line to drop in and find my way back to the base.
Saturday, it was a run down Bowl 4. Before weaving to the top of Chair 4 and down the marked runs to head home, I looked back up and took a quick photo of my turns along with the others who had ventured that way earlier.
Then drove the twenty-six minutes home to throw some hot dogs on the grill for lunch. It was sunny and warm, but weather was moving in from the west. K and I grabbed snacks and a pack before heading out to hike Dry Gulch again with Squish.
Above the old dam site, Mission Ridge was in plain sight. So was Bowl 4 and the spot where I took that photo of my turns above.
I thought how cool it was that I could ski in the morning, have lunch with S and K, and then head out with them for an afternoon hike. All before dinner. Yep, we absolutely love living here.
