Dark vs. light.

One thing K and I are toying with is how to blend the front of our house with the, well, back of our house. The traditional 1920s farmhouse with the 2010 very modern addition. Like the owners before us who spent who knows how much hiring an architect to design and contractors to build the addition, we think it's awesome. We also admit the differences are pretty stark. It sat on the market, waiting for us, for five months after all. When we go to sell it, we'd prefer it not to sit on the market for five months (our house in Puyallup sold in three days for comparison, likely I'm not abashed to admit because of all of the work we put into it over the years).

What to do, then?

We have some ideas. Some involve more horizontal wood, in both accents (front porch railing) and features (back patio pergola).

Others involve paint choices, including solids, accents, and trim.

Enter: Photoshop. Just to see what dark trim would look like, I did a little work.

Basically, everything that's white becomes dark. Except for the actual vinyl windows of course. The red door is, umm, just for fun. We haven't landed on a front door, yet.

We're also thinking horizontal wood running porch floor to ceiling between the front door and (left) office window and, of course, horizontal wood for the porch railings. Something like this…

Basically, less country, more modern.
