Painting No. 1.
The people who lived here before us loved their white. No, really. There wasn't a drop of color anywhere inside the house. Makes it easy for K and I. Clean slate. We've painted a few rooms so far, which I'll post at some point. Last weekend, though, we tackled painting the stairwell and upstairs hall.
The grey is Valspar Gravity 4005-1B. We painted one wall in our bedroom with it and so had most of a gallon leftover. Except it took a little more than a gallon, so we had to plunk down another $35. The first gallon we bought was $15 off so I decided to try the expensive stuff to see if a $35 gallon of paint was better than a $20 gallon of paint. They were the same price, after all. The verdict: not really.
This time we did it right. K scrubbed the walls with TSP I had leftover from way, way back when I was ripping off wallpaper from the kitchen in our old house. Except that job turned out to be so bad I literally just tore out the walls and rehung sheetrock. Anyway. Here, thanks to all the white (and zero wallpaper!), it was a simple job.
Then we gathered supplies and I started cutting in the corners.
It actually didn't take very long, despite all of the corners and having to use extension ladders.
Before we started, however, I took a few before photos to use as comparison.
Yep. The entire upstairs was-slash-is the same color (we've painted our bedroom and have the paint for K's craft room and Sefton's bathroom). Mid-afternoon came... time for espresso.
Then it was time to roll. Rolling is simple and really satisfying. K made dinner while I took the honors. Apparently, while it was cooking, she took a photo.
Good times. And then it was done.
It's subtle, actually. We love it.
We're going to install wood flooring on the ceiling (sounds funny, yes) and find a light fixture that's, well, more 'us.' Oh, and hang a pair of wooden skis I snagged from a good friend. And a photograph or piece of art on the wall below leading into our bedroom.
So now we have, again, most of a gallon left. We may find a use for it. This grey is awesome.
